KB00037: How do you rename your own MessageMaster user name?
Description
You are a MessageMaster admin, and your Windows user name is going to change. You
understand that MessageMaster uses Windows authentication, and that in order to retain
your settings and subscriptions, you'll need to rename your name in MessageMaster as well,
so that it will recognize you after your Windows user is renamed. You go into
the MessageMaster console to perform the rename, but your name does not appear in the list
of users that can be renamed by you.
Resolution
MessageMaster console does not allow you to rename yourself. You'll need to have another
MessageMaster admin rename your user. If you don't have another MessageMaster admin, you
can follow a few simple steps to accomplish the rename:
- Visit the MessageMaster console while logged in as a different Windows user. This will get the new username into MessageMaster. Alternatively, you can just add the new username, but be sure to get the domain name and user name correct. For detailed Console docs, see "MessageMaster Console Docs", referenced below.
- Now logged in as yourself again, promote the new user to be a MessageMaster admin. Close MessageMaster console, and don't open it again as yourself until after your rename. For details on promoting a user, see "User Management", referenced below.
- Get your Windows user renamed.
- Log in as the new user that you created earlier, and now rename your old MessageMaster user to your new Windows user name.
- Finally, log in as yourself, with your new Windows name and open MessageMaster console. Since your MessageMaster user has been renamed, you should have all the settings subscriptions you had before.
- If your email address has changed, remember to update it in all of the Carriers. For details on Carriers, see "Subscription - Agents and Carriers", referenced below.
- You can now remove the other MessageMaster admin user that you created earlier, if you wish.
